Feteasca Alba is a grape variety that is widely used in parts of Eastern Europe, especially in Romania, as well as in Moldova, Hungary, Bulgaria and Ukraine. Fetiasca means “virgin” in Romanian and is divided into three different varieties: Feteasca Regala (royal virgin), Feteasca Neagra (black virgin) and Feteasca Alba, or white virgin, which refers to the color of the grapes.
Feteasca Alba is the original form of Feteasca from which the other two are thought to have evolved. Despite this, Feteasca Regala is the most planted of the two, as the wines are very complex, but Feteasca Alba still produces dry, aromatic wines with stone fruits and tropical aromas. It can also be used to make sweet and sparkling wines and is sometimes mixed with other local varieties such as Grasa de Cotnari.
While the high sugar level in Feteasca Alba makes it well suited for the production of sweet wine, with warmer vintage grapes often try to maintain the desired level of acidity.
Bottled with the producer Feteasca Alba, a native variety found throughout Romania, produces in Cotnari a high-quality wine whose typicality is deeply marked by the specificity of the vineyard, especially when the grapes were harvested late autumn.
